How can healthcare organizations build and maintain a strong brand presence?

This is really two intertwined questions. To build a strong brand presence, healthcare organizations should first understand what their brand means in the hearts and minds of their stakeholders (patients, family members, employees, providers, community and board members). Conducting qualitative and quantitative research with these audiences will uncover the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your brand; identify differentiators and decision drivers; and establish a strong, compelling, unique brand position. From this positioning, brand elements can be created to authentically and positively communicate your brand to internal and external audiences.

Video: An interview with MASHSMD’s first intern!

We recently sat down with Becca Elias, who was our chapter’s first intern! Becca is a senior at Millersville University majoring in Communications. Becca was an intern at MASHSMD from May 2021 to August 2021 . In her role, Becca led a number of communications projects and initiatives that supported our organization and its mission. This included the planning and execution of this blog! Becca told our interviewer and board member Dan Carrigan that she hadn’t considered a career in health care, but found MASHSMD and applied.

Meet Amy Steinmann

 For about the past ten years, Amy Steinmann has been a dedicated member of MASHSMD. In 2008 she attended the Virginia Society of Hospital Marketing and Public Relations (VSHMPR) Fall conference. This was the first glimpse she had of what her future with us might look like as VSHMPR was one of the organizations that would later merge to form MASHSMD. Several years later, Amy had the opportunity to share her story and successes as a presenter at our Spring conference in May 2019. Being a part of MASHSMD for so long has allowed her to make connections with and learn from the challenges and triumphs of others who are doing similar work.

  Shelley is a fairly new member to MASHSMD, but she quickly became more valuable to us after she joined our Board of Directors as part of the Marketing Communications Committee. She was first introduced to our organization by another Board member whom she had worked closely with over the past few years. She knew MASHSMD was the right place for her since meeting new people in her field is something that’s very important to her. Being part of our organization gives her the opportunity to use her experience and expertise to network with others while also supporting the mission of the organization.
